On the evening of March 5th, 2014, the Consul General of Finland Marja Joenusva hosted a dinner to celebrate the success of the Dual Master Degree Programme in Engineering Education between University of Turku and Fudan University. Representatives from Fudan University, University of Turku and relative companies that were devoted to this Programme were invited.
Ms Marja Joenusva said, the Finnish Government attached great importance to the cooperative education between University of Turku and Fudan University and would provide necessary assistance for further development of this programme. Tapio Salakoski, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, University of Turku intorduced the innovativeness of the Dual Degree Programme as well as the urgency of engineering education reform. Fang LU, Vice President of Fudan University, looked forward an excellent prospect of this cooperated programme and, representing Fudan University, gave Marja Joenusva a gift “Galloping” indicating a promising future of the cooperation between China and Finland.
This International Dual Master Degree Programme aims to reform the engineering education and cultivate talents who are suitable for the enterprise as well as the social development in the field of information technology by introducing innovative interdisciplinary research project – Capstone Project. Taking advantage of resources of Fudan University and University of Turku and meeting the needs from society and enterprises, teamwork and practice are promoted for students from different educational and cultural background in this programme. In addition, tutors with different discipline backgrounds from both universities and companies are invited to coach in the projects. For the first time running, 16 Chinese students and 6 Finnish students have been recruited to this programme.
Besides, the Finnish-Chinese Network of Excellence in Education and Research on Food Quality and Safety between Univeristy of Turku, Fudan University and Peking University has been recently started to further enhance the cooperation between the two countries
The admission interview for FDU-UTU Joint Master's Programme in the area of Information and Communication Technology was held in Room 138, the video conference room in Physics Building, on the afternoon of March 26th, 2013.
As the first English-taught international master dual-degree programme of all schools of science and engineering in Fudan University, great importance was attached to its admission interview by the leadership of School of Information Science and Technology (SIST). The interview committee was composed of five senior professors from both Fudan University and University of Turku (UTU): Li-Rong Zheng, Dean of SIST, Ran Liu, Dean for Internationalization, Yu-Long Jiang, Assistant to Dean of SIST, Hannu Tenhunen and Tomi Westerlund from Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in UTU. The two professors in Finland together with the three professors in Fudan University interviewed the 23 candidates through the remote video conference system, and judged the interviewees from aspects of professional quality, comprehensive ability, English language proficiency, etc..
This programme is going to start in September this year. The students admitted to the programme are expected to spend their first year studying in Fudan University and then carry on researches through Capstone Project in University of Turku, Finland and finish their graduation thesis at either side. Both Master of Engineering Degree of Fudan University and Master of Science Degree of University of Turku will be conferred to the qualified graduates.
